Katie & Mark :: DC Engagment Session

Katie and Mark wanted to incorporate some DC landmarks into their engagement session photos. Even better, they also wanted to include their beautiful dog Samson. Sounds like a perfect session to me (I am a dog photographer, after all). Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

Love in Aisle Three :: A DC Engagement Session

When Brighton told me that she and Fred like to dance at the grocery store while waiting at the deli counter, I knew we had our engagment shoot. I love when photo session locations have special significance to the couple. This was definitely one of the most interesting and creative engagement sessions I've ever shot, although we had to navigate what seemed like the entire population of Washington, DC replenishing their refrigerators after the blizzard.

What I love about this session is that it is real. Sure, I picked a few spots for them to stand, but the interactions are all them. Brighton and Fred are such a fun, free-spirited couple. The kind of couple that dances at the grocery store while waiting at the deli counter.

Bonus: Brighton and Fred got to shop for dinner during the shoot. That's quality multitasking.

I can't wait to shoot their wedding at the Carnegie Institute next month.

Danielle & Rob :: A DC Engagement Session

Everything happens for a reason. After rain forced us to reschedule Danielle and Rob's engagement session a few weeks ago, I'm convinced it was so we could shoot on a gorgeous, 70 degree November day. It couldn't have been nicer for our shoot at the Lincoln Memorial.

A Wedding at the House of Sweden :: Kaja and Dan

Yes, the House of Sweden. The Swedish Embassy. Undoubtedly one of DC's coolest venues, and an amazing place for a wedding reception. Fitting for one of the coolest couples I've been fortunate to work with. Blog followers (hi Mom), might remember Kaja and Dan from their train station engagement session. I knew that anyone willing to go to such great lengths for their engagement session was going to have a fabulous wedding, and boy was I right.

Kaja and Dan are wonderful people and their story makes you believe in destiny and true love. They poured so much of themselves into planning the wedding, yet when the day came they were totally laid back and enjoyed every minute. It was truly an honor to document their wedding day.

I also have to thank my talented assistant Elisha and coordinator Leslie Weekes of Leslie-Manning Events for making sure everything went smoothly. Brace yourself for the onslaught of images...

Need makeup ideas? There's an app for that.

Funny story... Kaja decided not to wear these shoes after I took this shot. I liked the shot anyway and now she has a picture to remember the shoes that were too uncomfortable to wear.

The rings that Kaja and Dan designed themselves.

Yes, Kaja wore a blue Vera Wang gown. And it was stunning.

Kaja walked to the ceremony. Through Georgetown.

The ceremony was at Grace Episcopal Church.

Loved this exit shot by Elisha from the balcony.

This is Kaja and Dan's parking meter. Dan proposed a few feet from here.

Over at the House of Sweden, we had some time for rooftop portraits during sunset. Does it get any better?

The sunset was kind of moody, so we worked some off camera flash. The Kennedy Center is in the background.

A funny detail...

Cake by Fluffy Thoughts...

They made their entrance from a glass elevator. I can't get enough of that awesome ceiling!

Time for the first dance...

Steve Hoffman from Good Note DJs kept the party jumping.

One of my favorite getaway shots ever! Congrats Kaja and Dan!
