Katie & Scott :: DC Engagement Session

As I've said in the past, the best engagement sessions incorporate locations that have some meaning for the couple. For Katie and Scott, travel is a big part of their lives right now. Katie works for American Airlines, and they live in different cities until they get married in July. It seemed only fitting to start our session at DC's Reagan Airport. I'm so looking forward to their wedding at the Meridian House!

I was a bit obsessed with silhouettes...

This shot made us laugh. I love that it shows their personalities so well.

We battled tourists for space under these Cherry Blossom trees.

This dip was a surprise to both me and Katie! I'm glad I was ready!

Brighton & Fred :: Carnegie Institution Wedding :: Washington, DC

What can I say about Brighton and Fred? After getting to know them better at our awesome engagement session at Whole Foods, I knew their wedding would be special, with plenty of laughs (and more than a few tears)! I was blown away by the warmth and love that flowed throughout the day (and it's hard to blow away someone who has seen nearly 200 weddings).

The Carnegie Institution was a perfect choice for the wedding, with the ceremony held in the Rotunda where Brighton and Fred stood under a floating Chuppah, surrounded by their closest friends and family. I wish I could blog 100 more pictures from this wedding, but here are a few of my favorites from the day. Congratulations Brighton and Fred! What a way to start off the season!

Catering: Windows Catering

Flowers: Shelly Bagdasian

Coordinator: Laurie Williams, L.A. Williams Weddings & Events

We had grand plans for outdoor shots, but the rain spoiled most of those. Brighton was determined to get a few shots outside and was a total trooper going out in a pretty heavy rain.

Back at the Carnegie Institute, where there are some gorgeous places for portraits.

Fun in the photo booth...

Brighton's family serenaded the couple with a reworked version of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."

I loved this Hora dance shot by Elisha.

The rain finally let up so we got to take a few shots outside after all.

The bubble exit was fun!

Katie & Mark :: DC Engagment Session

Katie and Mark wanted to incorporate some DC landmarks into their engagement session photos. Even better, they also wanted to include their beautiful dog Samson. Sounds like a perfect session to me (I am a dog photographer, after all). Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

Love in Aisle Three :: A DC Engagement Session

When Brighton told me that she and Fred like to dance at the grocery store while waiting at the deli counter, I knew we had our engagment shoot. I love when photo session locations have special significance to the couple. This was definitely one of the most interesting and creative engagement sessions I've ever shot, although we had to navigate what seemed like the entire population of Washington, DC replenishing their refrigerators after the blizzard.

What I love about this session is that it is real. Sure, I picked a few spots for them to stand, but the interactions are all them. Brighton and Fred are such a fun, free-spirited couple. The kind of couple that dances at the grocery store while waiting at the deli counter.

Bonus: Brighton and Fred got to shop for dinner during the shoot. That's quality multitasking.

I can't wait to shoot their wedding at the Carnegie Institute next month.
